“Biotiful Gut Health is a business we have long admired for its innovation and quality.”
UK – Müller UK & Ireland has finalized a deal to acquire Biotiful Gut Health, a leading UK kefir brand, for an estimated US$130 million.
The acquisition, announced on April 11, 2025, marks Müller’s strategic move into the fast-growing gut health market, as consumer demand for functional dairy products continues to rise.
Biotiful Gut Health, founded in 2012 by Natasha Bowes, specializes in kefir drinks, yogurts, and other natural gut health products.
The company has established itself as the top kefir brand in the UK, holding approximately 70% of the market share.
Its products, rich in probiotics, have gained popularity for their digestive and immune health benefits.
In its latest financials, Biotiful reported a turnover of US$41 million for the year ending March 2024, reflecting a 37% growth, despite a slight dip in pre-tax profits to US$3 million.
The acquisition aligns with Müller’s ambition to diversify its portfolio beyond traditional dairy. Richard Williams, CEO of Müller Yogurt & Desserts, who will join Biotiful’s leadership team, emphasized the fit.
“Biotiful Gut Health is a business we have long admired for its innovation and quality,” he said.
Müller plans to leverage its resources to expand Biotiful’s reach while maintaining its brand identity.
The company confirmed that Biotiful will continue to operate as usual, with Bowes taking an advisory role during the transition.
Natasha Bowes expressed optimism about the deal’s potential.
“This partnership with Müller will amplify our mission to bring natural gut health to more people,” she stated.
Industry experts view the move as timely, given the kefir market’s double-digit growth in both volume and pricing, as reported by ESM Magazine.
Müller’s recent approval to expand its Market Drayton factory, creating eight new jobs, further supports its capacity to integrate Biotiful’s operations.
Müller, a major player in the UK dairy sector, sees functional health as a key growth area. Biotiful’s award-winning products complement Müller’s existing offerings, enabling it to tap into evolving consumer preferences for health-focused foods.
The deal follows a trend of consolidation in the gut health space, with competitors like Yeo Valley recently acquiring The Collective, another kefir brand.
As Müller integrates Biotiful, the focus will be on scaling production and distribution while preserving the brand’s reputation for quality.
This acquisition positions Müller to capitalize on the rising popularity of gut-friendly products, strengthening its foothold in the competitive dairy market.
