INDIA – The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and the Madhya Pradesh State Cooperative Dairy Federation (MPCDF) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), a step toward enhancing milk production in Madhya Pradesh was taken as
The signing ceremony, held in Bhopal, was attended by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.
According to officials, the MoU will enable NDDB to manage six dairy federations under MPCDF, focusing on improving infrastructure, marketing, and farmer support.
This collaboration is expected to expand cooperative societies from 6,000 to 9,000, covering more villages and boosting daily milk collection.
Chief Minister Yadav expressed optimism about the partnership. “This agreement will empower our farmers and make Madhya Pradesh a leader in milk production,” he said.
The state currently ranks third in India, contributing about 9% to the national milk output, trailing Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
A report by the state government indicates a goal to raise this share to over 20% in the coming years.
The initiative includes modernizing milk processing and quality testing facilities to ensure better returns for farmers.
Animal Husbandry Minister Lakhan Patel assured that the iconic Sanchi brand, a household name in Madhya Pradesh, will remain unchanged.
“Our focus is on doubling farmers’ income while preserving Sanchi’s legacy,” Patel stated. The agreement, valid for five years, also guarantees job security for existing staff.
A report by Business Standard highlights that Madhya Pradesh collects around 1 million liters of milk daily from 250,000 farmers.
With NDDB’s expertise, this could double, benefiting rural economies.
The partnership aligns with a broader national push to strengthen cooperatives, as emphasized by Amit Shah, who noted the sector’s potential to transform agriculture.
This MoU follows similar NDDB agreements in states like Assam and Chhattisgarh, signaling a growing reliance on cooperative models to enhance dairy output.
Local farmers have welcomed the move, expecting better prices and market access.
As Madhya Pradesh aims to become a dairy powerhouse, this collaboration marks a promising step toward sustainable growth and rural prosperity.
