Lactalis SA announces acquisition of iconic Cremora brand

Cremora, famously known for its slogan “It’s not inside, it’s on top,” has been a staple in South African kitchens since its introduction by Nestlé

SOUTH AFRICA – Lactalis South Africa has officially welcomed the coffee creamer brand Cremora into its family, marking a significant milestone in its growth. 

Recently approved by the Competition Commission, the acquisition brings Cremora’s manufacturing facilities in Babelegi, Gauteng, and Potchefstroom, North West, along with its dedicated employees, under the Lactalis SA banner. 

This move strengthens Lactalis SA’s position in the South African dairy market and promises a bright future for the iconic brand, cherished by households for over 77 years.

The transition was celebrated with an event held at the Babelegi factory this week, where Lactalis SA embraced its new employees and outlined its vision for Cremora. 

The gathering was attended by key figures, including Alban Damour, General Manager of Zone LAOA, and Herman Janse van Rensburg, General Manager of Lactalis SA. 

The leadership teams came together to mark the occasion, emphasizing unity and a shared commitment to preserving Cremora’s legacy while driving innovation. 

Employees from the Babelegi and Potchefstroom facilities were warmly welcomed, signaling the start of an exciting new chapter.

According to the company, the acquisition aligns with Lactalis SA’s strategy to expand its product range and cater to local consumer preferences. 

Cremora, famously known for its slogan “It’s not inside, it’s on top,” has been a staple in South African kitchens since its introduction by Nestlé, which owned the brand for nearly eight decades before the sale. 

According to a report by The South African, Lactalis SA assured consumers that the creamer’s quality and availability will remain unchanged, with the company pledging a seamless integration of operations.

During the event, Herman Janse van Rensburg addressed the crowd, saying, “We will continue to build on Cremora’s rich heritage together as we integrate the business into Lactalis SA to ensure seamless continuity for employees, suppliers, distributors, and consumers.” 

His words reflected optimism and a focus on collaboration. Alban Damour also shared his excitement, stating, “This is a proud moment for Lactalis as we welcome Cremora and its talented team into our family, ready to take this iconic brand to new heights.”

Lactalis SA, a subsidiary of the global dairy giant Groupe Lactalis, already boasts popular brands like Parmalat, President, and Melrose in its portfolio. 

The addition of Cremora enhances its offerings and reinforces its commitment to South Africa’s dairy industry. 

Meanwhile, the company plans to leverage its expertise to maintain Cremora’s status as a trusted household name while exploring opportunities for growth.
