“With Dairy Pesa, we want farmers to see their hard work pay off in new ways.”
UGANDA – A new financing solution dubbed Dairy Pesa is changing the lives of smallholder dairy farmers across the region, offering them a chance to break free from financial struggles.
Reported by Royal Milk, this innovative program aims to bridge the gap for farmers who have long been excluded from formal financial systems, providing them with access to credit using their milk as a key asset.
For years, smallholder dairy farmers have played a vital role in supplying milk to the industry, yet many have faced challenges in growing their businesses.
According to Royal Milk, limited access to loans has prevented these farmers from improving their herds, increasing production, or enhancing their livelihoods.
Dairy Pesa, developed in collaboration with Pearl Capital Partners and The Innovation Village, seeks to address this problem by turning milk supply data into a tool for financial empowerment.
Instead of relying on traditional collateral like land or property, farmers can now secure loans based on their daily milk deliveries and repay them through their earnings.
The program is simple yet transformative. A report by Pearl Capital Partners explains that Dairy Pesa uses milk production records to assess a farmer’s creditworthiness.
This means that the more milk a farmer supplies, the more funding they can access.
The loans can be used to buy better cattle, improve farm equipment, or cover other essential costs. Repayments are then deducted directly from the proceeds of their milk sales, making the process seamless and stress-free for farmers.
“We’re turning milk into a pathway for growth and independence,” Royal Milk said. “This isn’t just about giving loans; it’s about empowering farmers to build a sustainable future.”
The initiative has already sparked hope among smallholder farmers, many of whom have struggled to find affordable financing options in the past.
Beyond providing credit, Dairy Pesa aims to boost economic freedom and break down barriers that have held farmers back.
Royal Milk emphasized that the program is designed to support those who feed nations, helping them increase their income and improve their quality of life.
“With Dairy Pesa, we want farmers to see their hard work pay off in new ways.”
As the dairy sector continues to grow, initiatives like Dairy Pesa could play a key role in ensuring smallholder farmers are not left behind.
With milk now serving as both nourishment and a financial lifeline, this program promises a brighter future for those at the heart of the industry
