SWEDEN – Oatly and Nespresso have collaborated to introduce a limited-edition line of oat milk coffee capsules designed for Nespresso Vertuo machines.
The blend combines roasted and ground coffee beans with Oatly’s Barista Edition oat drink, described as creamy and biscuity with sweet aromatics, a smooth texture, low bitterness and a light body.
The companies reported that the launch was influenced by the growing consumer interest in plant-based alternatives to dairy.
According to Nespresso, the collaboration responds to demand from coffee enthusiasts seeking high-quality oat-based beverages.
Toby Weedon, barista development director at Oatly, highlighted that the neutral taste of Oatly Barista Edition enhances coffee’s flavor, making it a preferred choice for professional baristas.
He expressed excitement over the partnership, emphasizing that the new capsules were developed specifically for oat drink consumers.
The product is available from January 28, 2025, in over 15 countries, including the UK, US, China and Australia, through Nespresso’s online platforms and boutiques.
Nestlé, First Milk advance regenerative dairy project
In another development, First Milk and Nestlé Waters & Premium Beverages UK have announced a four-year initiative to support regenerative dairy farming practices in Pembrokeshire, Wales.
The project, which involves up to 30 dairy farmers, focuses on improving soil health and water infiltration to capture an estimated 250 million litres of groundwater annually.
According to reports, the initiative promotes rotational grazing, increased grassland diversity and deeper rooting to enhance soil structure, biodiversity and local water quality.
The project is expected to benefit the Eastern and Western Cleddau rivers while addressing soil compaction issues.
Nestlé Waters & Premium Beverages UK stated that farmers will receive guidance through workshops, farm visits and tailored support to optimize soil management and mitigate water runoff.
Matthew Faulkner, factory manager at the Nestlé Waters & Premium Beverages site in Princes Gate, said the initiative marks the company’s first effort to collaborate with farmers outside its direct supply chain to improve local environmental conditions.
Mark Brooking, chief impact officer at First Milk, described the partnership as a strategic effort to reinforce the role of regenerative farming in water conservation.
He noted that improving the land’s capacity to store water is essential for preventing floods, managing drought and safeguarding water quality.
