USA – Misha’s Inc., a leading producer of plant-based cheeses, has announced the acquisition of Vertage, another prominent player in the dairy-free cheese market.
This strategic move will significantly expand Misha’s product line, incorporating shredded and sliced cheeses while paving the way for the introduction of new categories in 2025.
“By integrating Vertage’s expertise and leveraging our existing partnership with Fresh Del Monte, we’re not only scaling our operations but also evolving our product offerings to meet consumer demand,” said Aaron Bullock, founder and chief executive officer of Misha’s Inc.
Founded by plant-based chef Margaux Riccio, Vertage has gained recognition for its innovative and delicious dairy-free cheeses, including mozzarella, American cheddar, and various cream cheese varieties.
Riccio, driven by a personal dairy allergy, began creating plant-based cheeses in 2005, initially gaining traction among local chefs who incorporated her products into their menus.
Vertage’s partnership with Fresh Del Monte in 2023 proved pivotal, providing access to crucial resources such as production facilities, technology, and logistics networks.
This collaboration not only facilitated Vertage’s market expansion but also solidified Fresh Del Monte’s commitment to sustainable and healthy living.
“This partnership reflects exactly why we opened our robust logistics network to other businesses,” said Ziad Nabulsi, senior vice president of North America operations at Fresh Del Monte.
“It enables other companies to leverage a well-established, efficient system to expand their footprint and reach a broader audience.”
Under the terms of the acquisition, Misha’s will continue to leverage the partnership with Fresh Del Monte to expand its product lines and distribution reach.
Tim Wildin, current CEO of Vertage, will assume the role of chief marketing officer at Misha’s, bringing with him extensive experience in brand marketing, product development, and hospitality leadership from his previous roles at companies like Chipotle Mexican Grill and Zume Inc.
This acquisition will solidify Misha’s position as a leader in the growing plant-based cheese market and meeting the evolving demands of consumers seeking delicious and sustainable alternatives to traditional dairy products.
