EUROPE – Ajinomoto Foods Europe and Standing Ovation have partnered to advance the production of alternative milk proteins through precision fermentation.
Standing Ovation, a French biotech company specializing in dairy protein alternatives, will collaborate with Ajinomoto Foods Europe (AFE), an affiliate of the Japanese Ajinomoto Group with extensive experience in industrial fermentation, to enhance casein production.
According to a report by the companies, the partnership will focus on producing caseins, the primary milk proteins essential for the transformation of milk into various dairy products such as cheese, yogurt, ice cream, and foaming milk.
These proteins will be manufactured at AFE’s biomanufacturing plant in Nesle, France, which is strategically located near Standing Ovation’s key customers, including leading dairy industry players.
Standing Ovation, which was founded in 2020, has developed a patented precision fermentation technology that enables the creation of Advanced Casein, an animal-free casein powder.
Reported by the company, this innovation maintains the functional and sensory properties of traditional dairy proteins while significantly reducing the environmental impact associated with conventional milk production.
The collaboration with AFE will allow for the large-scale production of these fermentation-enabled caseins without the need for animal breeding.
A statement by Hiroshi Kaneko, President of Ajinomoto Foods Europe, highlights the company’s commitment to food innovation.
He noted that Ajinomoto Group has a longstanding history in precision fermentation and is eager to apply this expertise to support Standing Ovation’s large-scale manufacturing goals.
Similarly, Yvan Chardonnens, CEO of Standing Ovation, emphasized that Ajinomoto’s leading fermentation capabilities in France make them an ideal manufacturing partner, ensuring the delivery of high-quality and sustainable proteins to meet customer demands.
According to industry reports, the demand for alternative proteins is on the rise as consumers and manufacturers seek sustainable and environmentally friendly food solutions.
