USA – Nestle has introduced protein shots in the United States aimed at helping individuals suppress appetite as part of their weight-loss journey.
The product, named Boost Pre-Meal Hunger Support, targets consumers looking for dietary solutions to complement weight-loss efforts, including those using GLP-1-based drugs.
The newly launched drink is designed to be consumed up to 30 minutes before meals and leverages a patented formula to stimulate a natural increase in GLP-1 levels in the body.
This hormone, mimicked by popular weight-loss injections like Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy and Eli Lilly’s Zepbound, reduces appetite and enhances feelings of fullness.
“You get an increase in natural GLP-1, which helps in controlling the feeling of hunger. So this dose has a significant effect on satiety,” said Stefan Palzer, Nestle’s Chief Technology Officer.
Priced at US$10.99 for a four-pack, the shots are available on Amazon.com and at select CVS locations. Each shot delivers 10 grams of whey protein, 45 calories, and 1 gram of sugar, with no fat content.
According to Nestle, the product is not a substitute for weight-loss drugs but offers a supplementary option for managing appetite and maintaining reduced weight.
The formulation relies on a mix of peptides that are quickly digested, producing an amino acid spike that helps regulate hunger. Nestle sees this innovation as part of a broader shift in nutritional products to cater to evolving consumer needs.
Earlier this year, Nestle introduced a line of protein-enriched frozen pizzas and pastas in the U.S., aimed at individuals on weight-loss medications.
With analysts projecting the obesity drug market to reach US$150 billion annually within the next decade, food companies like Nestle are capitalizing on this growing demand.
Former Nestle CEO Mark Schneider highlighted the shift in consumer nutritional needs as a new opportunity for the company’s portfolio.
