MALAYSIA – Danone Malaysia, a subsidiary of the multinational dairy company Danone, has become the first food company in Malaysia to earn B Corp certification.
The certification, which is awarded to businesses that meet rigorous social and environmental performance standards, highlighted Danone’s commitment to sustainable business practices.
According to Koh Kok Meng, the country manager for Danone Malaysia and Singapore, the achievement highlighted the company’s dedication to social and environmental responsibilities.
Koh stated that the B Corp certification is more than just a label; it is a trustmark that affirms Danone Malaysia as a responsible business with a positive impact.
He emphasized that in a market where transparency is crucial, this certification validates the company’s purpose-driven approach.
One of Danone’s key initiatives, which helped in securing the B Corp status, is its focus on reducing carbon dioxide emissions throughout its supply chain.
In addition, the company has taken significant steps to address health issues such as iron deficiency anemia among Malaysian children, aligning its operational strategies with a broader vision of sustainability.
Danone’s Dugro Iron Active formula, which is fortified with iron and Vitamin C, is central to the company’s mission of improving child health through nutrition.
The company has also launched the Dugro Generasi Kuat Zat Besi roadshows, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of proper nutrition.
Koh explained that the B Corp certification has strengthened external trust in Danone’s efforts, while also fostering a sense of pride and collaboration among its employees.
He highlighted that the entire workforce was actively engaged in the certification process through transparent communication, training, and inclusion of stakeholders.
Looking to the future, Danone Malaysia plans to leverage its B Corp status to expand its market share and drive growth in Malaysia.
Koh mentioned that the company’s global vision, ‘One Planet, One Health,’ integrates sustainability into every aspect of its operations, from product innovation to supply chain optimization.
As part of its commitment to addressing health challenges, Danone recently partnered with Malaysia’s Ministry of Women, Family, and Community Development to raise awareness about anemia through the Dugro Iron Strong Generation movement.
Meanwhile, Danone Malaysia is set to lead the B Corp movement in Southeast Asia, with plans to expand its sustainable product offerings, improve operational transparency, and address critical health issues.
Koh also noted that the company aims to become the largest B Corp-certified FMCG company by 2025, further solidifying its role as a changemaker in the industry.
