INDIA – The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), led by its Chairman Dr. Meenesh C Shah, is intensifying efforts to strengthen India’s dairy sector through infrastructure development, technological advancements, and strategic collaborations.
In recent high-level engagements, NDDB outlined its initiatives aimed at transforming dairy farming into a sustainable economic engine for rural communities while advancing India’s standing in the global dairy market.
During a meeting with Shri Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Dr. Shah highlighted the NDDB’s targeted interventions in Maharashtra, particularly in the Vidarbha-Marathwada region.
As reported by NDDB, these efforts include the formation of Milk Producer Organisations, the development of a milk processing facility in Nagpur by Mother Dairy, and manure management initiatives promoting compressed biogas (CBG) bikes for veterinarians.
Dr. Shah emphasized the NDDB Foundation for Nutrition’s ‘Gift Milk’ program, supported by HUDCO, which aims to improve nutrition in tribal communities.
Shri Gadkari commended NDDB’s progress, stressing the role of dairying as a key driver of economic empowerment and sustainable development for farmers in the region.
Furthering its nationwide agenda, Dr. Shah also met with Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, to discuss transformative technologies aimed at improving productivity.
According to NDDB, notable developments include the dissemination of advanced tools such as fetus transplantation, sexed semen, and genomic selection, as part of initiatives under White Revolution 2.0.
The Hon’ble Minister praised NDDB’s work in biogas and manure management, encouraging the adoption of innovative funding models to make sustainable solutions accessible to farmers at reduced costs.
In a move to bolster international partnerships, NDDB hosted key officials from Simon Frères, a leading global technology provider for butter-making equipment.
Discussions, attended by IDMC executives, centered on enhancing the longstanding collaboration between IDMC Limited, NDDB’s wholly owned subsidiary, and Simon Frères.
The partnership aims to leverage advanced expertise to supply state-of-the-art dairy processing equipment across India and expand into international markets, aligning with NDDB’s vision to strengthen India’s dairy infrastructure.
Additionally, a delegation from Madhya Pradesh, including Hon’ble MLA Mr. Hemant Khandelwal and officials from the Madhya Pradesh Cow Enrichment Board, visited NDDB’s facilities in Anand.
As noted by NDDB, discussions focused on expanding dairy cooperatives, improving biogas and organic product adoption, and reinforcing infrastructure in Madhya Pradesh.
The delegation visited key units, including genomic and fodder production labs, the Amul Dairy Plant, and Sakhi Fertilizer Cooperative, observing farmer-focused initiatives aimed at improving rural livelihoods.
