FRANCE – French food and beverage co-operative Agrial has announced the promotion of Julien Heillaut to Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 July 2025.
Heillaut will succeed Ludovic Spiers, who is stepping down after a 15-year tenure at the helm of the group and an extensive 35-year career within the organization.
According to Agrial, Heillaut’s appointment reflects the company’s commitment to continuity and strategic leadership.
Having joined Agrial in 2018 from French fine foods producer Labeyrine Fine Foods, Heillaut has played a pivotal role in the co-op’s operations, particularly since taking charge of its vegetables division in 2020.
Agrial, headquartered in France, manages a diverse portfolio of over 900 products across five divisions, including dairy, fresh produce, meat, and beverages.
The co-operative’s brands, which include Florette salads, Soignon cheese, Maitre Jacques meat products, and Loïc Raison cider, are widely recognized in European markets.
The group reported a steady financial performance in 2023, with a 3.7% rise in sales, reaching €7.4 billion . EBITDA for the year was noted at €239 million, highlighting Agrial’s ability to navigate economic uncertainties.
As reported in June, Spiers credited the company’s resilience and adaptability amid geopolitical tensions and climate-related challenges for its solid performance.
With operations spanning over 100 production facilities across ten countries, Agrial is supported by 12,500 farmer members and employs 22,000 staff worldwide.
Industry analysts noted that Heillaut’s leadership comes at a critical time as global food systems face rising pressures, including supply chain disruptions and evolving consumer preferences.
Agrial’s strategic focus under Heillaut is expected to remain centered on strengthening its international market share, optimizing production efficiency, and driving sustainable growth across its divisions.
Given the co-operative’s continued emphasis on innovation and adaptability, analysts predict that Heillaut’s experience in managing the vegetable division will bring valuable insights to the group’s broader operations.
Ludovic Spiers’ departure marks the end of an era defined by consistent growth and stability. His leadership saw Agrial expand its brand portfolio and solidify its position as a key player in the European food and beverage market.
Spiers’ emphasis on maintaining a balance between agricultural tradition and modern business practices has been integral to Agrial’s success over the past decade and a half.
As Heillaut prepares to step into his new role, Agrial remains poised to adapt to shifting global demands, particularly in health-focused food products such as fresh produce, dairy, and beverages.
According to market analysts, sectors like probiotics and functional foods continue to show growth potential, aligning with increasing consumer interest in health and wellness.
