Bio Food Products advances sustainable dairy Initiatives in Kenya

KENYA – Bio Food Products Ltd | Certified B Corp has reaffirmed its mission to ensure everyone has access to safe and healthy food, both now and in the future.

According to company statements, this commitment is being realized through targeted efforts to support smallholder dairy farmers and promote sustainable agriculture practices.

The company emphasizes several strategic goals: enhancing the profitability and productivity of smallholder farmers, deepening partnerships with dairy farms, and implementing Quality-Based Milk Pricing (QBMP) systems.

As reported by Bio Food Products Ltd, QBMP ensures farmers receive fair compensation for higher quality milk, incentivizing best practices in milk production.

Recently, Bio Food Products Ltd spent two days engaging with farmers and cooperatives in Nakuru and Trans Nzoia. The visit highlighted progress made toward increasing high-quality milk production while reducing costs and minimizing environmental impacts.

The company expressed gratitude for its partnerships with organizations such as Lato Milk, Amit Sagar, Margaret Rugut Kibogy, and Bles Dairies. These collaborations are key in driving sustainable and profitable dairy farming practices across Kenya.

The company also shared significant outcomes from a year-long partnership with the Mumberes Dairy Cooperative.

According to Bio Food Products Ltd, milk production per cow has doubled, bacterial counts in the milk have decreased by 87%, and the quality-based price per liter has increased by 44%.

These improvements underscore the benefits of focused interventions and the dedication of cooperative members.

A major milestone was also announced: the successful harvest of over 220 acres of precision-cut maize silage in partnership with Lato Milk and Bles Dairies.

This high-quality silage, available at affordable rates, aims to lower feed costs for farmers, particularly during dry seasons.

According to the company, this initiative could increase milk yields by up to 30%, thereby enhancing farm profitability. Strategic management support will accompany the distribution of this feed, ensuring farmers maximize its benefits.

The broader vision involves advancing regenerative agricultural practices, which promote soil health and land regeneration.

These efforts align with Kenya’s Livestock Sector Steering Committee goals, chaired by Hon. Jonathan Mueke, Principal Secretary for Livestock, with strategic guidance from McKinsey & Company.

Together, these initiatives are designed to empower Kenyan farmers, improve livelihoods, and deliver safe, clean, and healthy dairy products to consumers.

Reflecting on these developments, Bio Food Products Ltd reiterated its commitment to sustainable farming, noting that “increasing the sustainable productivity of quality milk by smallholder farmers is a fundamental driver for our nation’s long-term prosperity.”

The company concluded by emphasizing the importance of collaboration, stating, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
