SOUTH AFRICA – The Just Milk Group is proud to announce the launch of its latest dairy development, Mountain View Dairy, located in Khowa (formerly Elliot), nestled in the scenic surroundings of the Stormberg Mountain Range.

This new addition marks a great milestone in the group’s expansion and commitment to delivering high-quality dairy products to the Eastern Cape region.

In 2021, Just Milk purchased land from the Dobrowsky family, and after an extensive redevelopment, the group has transformed an old 24-point swing-over system into a state-of-the-art 66-point rotary dairy facility.

The new facility, which was commissioned in the spring of 2021, is designed to milk over 1,800 cows, producing the premium milk that Just Milk is renowned for.

This cutting-edge setup reflects the group’s continued efforts to innovate and modernize dairy farming practices.

As part of the larger Number Two Piggeries group, Just Milk has continued to expand its operations across the region.

One of the most notable developments is the construction of a state-of-the-art creamery, which will be supplied exclusively by Just Milk dairies, including the Mountain View operation.

This new creamery is expected to significantly enhance the group’s production capacity and ensure a steady supply of fresh, high-quality milk products.

But the progress doesn’t stop at dairy farming. The Just Milk Group has also made strides in the livestock industry with the establishment of the Fairfield mega piggery.

This new venture is not only helping to diversify the group’s operations but also contributing to the local economy by creating numerous employment opportunities in the area.

Together with Mountain View Dairy, these projects are helping to establish a bustling agricultural hub in the picturesque Eastern Cape.

Mountain View Dairy’s journey began with the goal of expanding the Just Milk brand into new areas.

The initial operation, using the upgraded 24-point swing-over system, was quickly filled to capacity, with cows calving rapidly to reach a herd size of nearly 1,000 cows by the end of August 2021.

The group worked tirelessly to complete construction on the feed pads, walkways, and calf-rearing facilities, ensuring the dairy could meet the growing demand for its milk.

Thanks to the collaborative efforts of suppliers such as Northfield Engineering, Waikato, and Kouga Construction, the dairy’s expansion into the 66-point rotary system was completed on schedule, further increasing its capacity to 1,800 cows.

The milk produced at Mountain View Dairy is supplied to Sundale Dairy in East London, further bolstering the region’s dairy industry.

Mountain View Dairy is the latest addition to Just Milk’s portfolio of 15 dairies spread across 10 units in the Eastern Cape, with a total herd size of approximately 17,000 cows.
