EGYPT – Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel Al-Wazir, convened to evaluate the distribution system for artificial milk, designed to replicate breast milk, and therapeutic milk used in treating severe acute malnutrition.
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, revealed that the meeting included an assessment of the operational status and future plans of Lacto Misr Company, a leading producer of baby milk and related food products.
Key discussions focused on scaling up production to meet national demand for artificial milk.
The ministers also deliberated on expanding the first and second phases of baby milk production, ensuring adequate supply for children in need.
They explored Lacto Misr’s production capacity to distribute subsidized milk efficiently.
Attracting foreign investment and fostering partnerships with the private sector emerged as critical points to enhance the local production of children’s food products.
The meeting emphasized the importance of encouraging breastfeeding while introducing supplementary nutrition for children starting at four months old, particularly during their second stage of milk dependency.
The ministers stressed the importance of modernizing and regulating the artificial milk dispensing system to ensure it reaches eligible families effectively.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to providing therapeutic milk without imposing financial strain on citizens.
