GHANA – Danone has launched a new sourcing partnership with Ghanaian chocolate producer fairafric, bringing Ghanaian-made chocolate chips into its premium American Vanilla ice cream.
The collaboration highlighted Danone’s commitment to bolstering local businesses and fostering economic growth within Ghana.
By incorporating locally sourced ingredients, Danone aims to drive sustainable employment and elevate indigenous businesses within its value chain.
“This partnership is aligned with Danone’s overarching “Impact Journey,” an initiative dedicated to ethical and sustainable business practices that benefit people and the planet.”
Through this partnership, both Danone and fairafric have committed to maintaining environmentally friendly and socially responsible production processes.
The initiative reinforces Danone’s dedication to creating a more resilient and sustainable supply chain that supports local economies through job creation and promotes fair trade practices in Ghana.
Alongside this new sourcing model, Danone has introduced additional projects designed to support small businesses and local entrepreneurs.
One such effort is its sponsorship of street vendors, helping them transition into full-time agents, a move aimed at fostering long-term job creation within Danone’s supply network.
The sponsorship also shows Danone’s commitment to its “Project Sankofa,” a program developed to rekindle enthusiasm for Fan Milk products in Ghana, where the brand has been well-established for over six decades.
Moreover, Danone has launched the “Right to Dream” Award Scheme, which recognizes and rewards dedicated street vendors who have played a vital role in bringing Fan Milk products to consumers across Ghana.
This initiative aligns closely with Danone’s “Thriving with its People & Communities” pillar within the Impact Journey framework, which is focused on empowering individuals with skills and capabilities essential for future employment.
In the last quarter, Fan Milk PLC—a Danone subsidiary—has engaged with over 555 agents nationwide and over 1,200 vendors in Accra to gather insights on the specific challenges they face.
Additionally, Fan Milk recently appointed four new professionals—Gloria Ofori, Kenneth Aidam, Yaw Darko, and Andrews Bodom—bringing a wealth of experience to strengthen its operations and market presence in Ghana.
Danone’s combination of sustainable sourcing, local community support, and strategic workforce development positions the company to deliver positive impacts throughout its Ghanaian operations.
