FrieslandCampina Ingredients secures EU approval for Hyvital Whey HA 300 in infant formulas

NETHERLANDS – FrieslandCampina Ingredients has strengthened its position in the early life nutrition (ELN) sector with the approval of its Hyvital Whey HA 300 for use in infant and follow-on formula across the European Union.

This authorization comes following a comprehensive scientific evaluation, which ensures that the ingredient meets the EU’s stringent safety and suitability standards, particularly those established under the Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2016/127.

The listing of Hyvital Whey HA 300 in this regulation marks its inclusion in infant nutrition products marketed within the EU.

Hyvital Whey HA 300, a milk hydrolysate ingredient, has been available since 2010 but underwent reassessment under the EU’s updated regulations introduced in February 2022.

These new rules place specific emphasis on the safety and appropriateness of protein hydrolysates in standard infant nutrition formulas.

According to Jouke Veldman, the company’s marketing director of Early Life Nutrition, FrieslandCampina Ingredients’ compliance with these requirements further solidifies its role as a trusted leader in the ELN space.

“This decision not only broadens the options available for developing formulas for infants but also reinforces our commitment to meeting the highest industry standards, he emphasized.

“Our customers can trust that we continue to prioritize safety, quality, and innovation.”

FrieslandCampina Ingredients also highlighted that its protein hydrolysates, created through the enzymatic breakdown of milk proteins, provide a solution for infant formula manufacturers seeking to better align their products with infants’ nutritional needs.

The company credited its research and development teams in Ingredients, Global Nutrition, and Scientific & Regulatory Affairs for their role in securing the EU approval.

Veldman acknowledged their contribution, stating, Their hard work and expertise were instrumental in securing this approval and achieving this important milestone.”

In addition to the EU approval, FrieslandCampina Ingredients has recently made strides in other markets.

The company received approval from China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs to produce its strain of Lacto-N-Tetraose (LNT) for use in infant formulas in China.

This approval further enhances the company’s Aequival 2’-FL HMO (human milk oligosaccharide) offering, showcasing its ongoing commitment to expanding its footprint in global infant nutrition markets.
