AUSTRALIA – Melbourne-based Pure Dairy has entered into a strategic partnership with Great Lakes Cheese, a leading U.S. natural and processed cheese packager.
This collaboration is expected to significantly accelerate the company’s growth, beginning with the opening of its new Victorian production facility in 2025.
Executive chairman Adrian Josephson expressed excitement about the partnership, saying, “The investment from Great Lakes Cheese accelerates our plans to acquire further assets and consolidate Australia’s position as one of the world’s top dairy producers.”
The new facility will integrate an R&D kitchen, manufacturing, warehousing, logistics, and corporate offices, with a focus on lean manufacturing and environmental sustainability.
“Although we’ll now have our own production lines, the plant will also be open to collaborative as well as white-label manufacture,” added Josephson, emphasizing the broader impact of the facility on the Australian dairy sector.
This facility will not only support Pure Dairy’s production needs but also serve as a hub for innovation, driven by state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment adhering to the highest global standards.
The plant’s location near Port Melbourne, a booming export hub, ensures easy access to dairy producers and international markets.
Mark Anderson, vice-president and CFO of Great Lakes Cheese, commented on the partnership, stating, “Their strong relationships and deep understanding of individual markets assured us that Pure Dairy is the right partner for us as we make our very first investment outside of America.”
This investment marks Great Lakes Cheese’s first venture beyond the U.S. and is set to boost Pure Dairy’s presence in American markets.
Anderson highlighted the synergies created by the partnership, which will allow Pure Dairy to access American retailers and food service businesses through Great Lakes Cheese’s robust distribution network.
Pure Dairy has grown exponentially over the last decade, transforming from a local business into a global player operating in 72 countries with four international offices.
The new partnership will provide Pure Dairy with the resources to further enhance its asset base and solidify Australia’s role as a key dairy producer.
“We go beyond transactional business to form strategic relationships, and we have the global insights required to succeed,” said Josephson.
Great Lakes Cheese’s participation in this partnership aligns with its legacy of producing award-winning natural and processed cheese products.
Celebrating its 65th anniversary in 2023, the company operates multiple facilities across the U.S. and is renowned for its diverse range of cheese products, including shreds, slices, and snacks.
As Pure Dairy’s Victorian facility comes online, the collaboration between the two companies is expected to foster innovation in dairy production, increase export opportunities for Australian dairy, and strengthen both companies’ positions in the global market.
Josephson affirmed, “The synergies that our partnership creates are endless.”
