Kabrita sees growing demand for goat milk-based infant formula

CANADA – Kabrita, a company specializing in goat milk-based infant formula, is experiencing increased acceptance among parents seeking alternatives to cow milk-based products, particularly due to concerns over infants’ digestive sensitivities.

Jacqueline Lipiec, General Manager of Kabrita North America, attributed this shift to a growing awareness of gut health and the rising demand for clean-label, naturally sourced products.

“Our goat milk formula is made in Europe and is currently the only goat milk infant formula that meets all FDA requirements in the US,” Lipiec explained.

According to Lipiec, goat milk proteins are more similar to breast milk proteins than those from cow’s milk, making them easier to digest.

She noted that goat milk has a naturally mild, slightly sweet flavor that many parents and babies find pleasant.

In terms of texture, she explained that goat milk proteins form smaller, softer curds in the stomach, making the formula feel smoother and easier to digest.

Kabrita’s formula contains several beneficial components, including natural A2 proteins, which are gentler on the stomach than the A1 proteins found in cow’s milk.

Additionally, the formula includes essential vitamins, minerals, and a premium fat blend with DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid) and ARA (Arachidonic acid), which support healthy digestion, immunity, and infant growth and development.

Lipiec emphasized that this gentler protein structure not only supports babies with sensitive tummies but can also lead to a more comfortable feeding experience.

Kabrita’s goat milk formula is positioned as a clean-label product that aligns with sustainable farming practices. The company owns the entire supply chain, from farm to formula, through its parent company Ausnutria.

The goat milk is sourced from Dutch family-run farms known for their high safety standards and sustainable practices.

Lipiec pointed out that sourcing from the Netherlands ensures the highest quality milk, thanks to the country’s strict dairy standards and long tradition of responsible dairy practices.

Kabrita’s production facilities prioritize safety and are located in Ommen, Kampen, Leeuwarden, and Heerenveen.

Lipiec emphasized that the formulas are made in FDA-registered facilities in the Netherlands, where over 90 quality checks are conducted to maintain product safety.

She highlighted that the European regulations limit the use of antibiotics, hormones, and pesticides while promoting high animal welfare standards.

We want to assure parents that our products meet the highest standards. That’s why our formulas have undergone rigorous third-party testing,” Lipiec confirmed.

The company’s commitment to transparency and safety has earned it three Clean Label certifications, including the Purity Award and the Certified Pesticide Free Award.

Lipiec remarked that several trends, including a rising focus on gut health, the demand for clean label and naturally sourced products, and the desire for formulas that align with sustainable farming practices, are fueling this shift.

Kabrita’s products are now available at major retailers like Whole Foods Market and Sprouts Farmers Markets, as well as through online stores.

Looking to the future, Lipiec revealed that Kabrita plans to expand its range of goat milk-based products, acknowledging the growing consumer demand for goat milk-based products across different life stages.
