SOUTH AFRICA – Danone Southern Africa has partnered with the Hope SA Foundation, a local NGO, under the company’s “Danone Impact Journey” initiative, seeking to positively impact local communities.

The partnership aligns with Danone’s Pillar of Thriving People and Communities and aims to uplift those in need by providing healthy food and essential health services.

As part of this initiative, Danone has donated a mobile clinic that offers vital health screenings, disaster relief, support, and education to local communities.

According to the company, the initiative aligns with its commitment to health and well-being, ensuring individuals have access to resources that allow them to thrive.

The initiative embodies Danone’s belief that the health of people and the health of the planet are interconnected.

This latest move follows Danone Egypt’s launch of the “Gawda” project, an innovative initiative aimed at improving the quality of milk collection in the country through advanced cooling technology.

The project, a first in Egypt, is being rolled out in the Beni Suef and Gharbia governorates under Danone’s ‘Alban Baladna’ framework.

By utilizing cooling technology during milk collection, the Gawda project ensures that milk remains at optimal temperatures, thus preserving its quality and nutritional value.

This process prevents bacterial growth and contamination, a common issue when milk is exposed to high temperatures during collection.

“By ensuring milk safety from the moment it is collected, we aim to deliver nutritious dairy products to consumers,” the company stated, underscoring its focus on health and safety.

Hesham Radwan, General Manager of Danone Egypt, highlighted the importance of the Gawda project in achieving the company’s mission.

Radwan emphasized that the project aligns with Danone’s mission of ‘Bringing health through food to as many people as possible,’ as well as its broader sustainability goals.

According to the company, the project also contributes to Danone’s “Zero Food Waste” initiative by minimizing food loss and contamination risks by 90%.

Ahmed Talaat, Corporate Affairs, Legal & Regulatory Director at Danone Egypt, reiterated that the Gawda project strengthens Danone’s leadership in dairy processing and plays a critical role in reducing food waste.

In 2023, Danone South Africa also launched its “Women in Dairy Programme,” which focuses on empowering the next generation of female farmers.

The initiative aims to equip women with key manufacturing, quality control, marketing, and retail positioning skills, ensuring they are well-prepared to lead within the dairy industry.

This program is part of Danone’s broader sustainability goals, as outlined in its “Impact Journey 2023,” which seeks to address health through food and foster community development.

Danone’s Impact Journey initiative is structured around three pillars—Health, Nature, and People—which guide the company’s efforts to drive positive change in both the environment and the communities it serves.
