CZECH REPUBLIC – Greiner Packaging has partnered with Czech dairy leader Olma to introduce its innovative K3 r100 self-separating packaging solution.
This new technology, used for Olma’s popular brands like Carte d’Or and Cavalier, aims to simplify recycling by improving the separation of plastic cups and cardboard wraps.
Greiner’s K3 r100 packaging achieves a recyclability rate of up to 98%, and notably, it doesn’t rely on consumers to separate materials.
The plastic and cardboard components separate automatically during the waste disposal process, even before reaching the near-infrared sorting systems at recycling plants. This innovation marks a significant step forward for the Czech food market.
“We value Greiner Packaging as an innovative and reliable partner, and the K3 r100 impressed us from the start. With our desserts, we focus on not only the best ingredients but also on packaging that is second to none,” said Martin Krystián, CEO of Olma.
Since spring, Olma has been packaging its refrigerated desserts in the self-separating K3 r100 cups.
The K3 r100 solution has already garnered industry recognition, winning the prestigious World Star Packaging Award earlier this year.
Berglandmilch, an Austrian dairy company, was the first to adopt this packaging for its products, and now Olma is following suit, embracing this cutting-edge technology in the Czech market.
In addition to Olma, Greiner Packaging continues to collaborate with other companies seeking sustainable solutions.
Last year, Greiner developed eco-friendly packaging for Nomadic’s Protein+ Granola yogurt range, coinciding with Nomadic’s 25th anniversary.
Bethan Miles, Nomadic’s Marketing Manager, explained the importance of the packaging design, “Like our Yogurt & Oat Clusters range, Protein+ Granola prioritizes taste and is designed for on-the-go consumption. The packaging is crucial to the product’s success.”
The new packaging, which is a literal “upside-down” version of the popular Yogurt & Oat Clusters’ iconic top-hat bowl with a spoon, was developed in close collaboration with Greiner Packaging.
“We worked closely with Greiner to ensure the new design fit seamlessly into our existing production capabilities,” added Miles.
Julie Eller, Sales Director for Greiner Packaging UK & Ireland, highlighted the creative and sustainable approach behind the new packaging, “Taking Nomadic’s iconic design and flipping it on its head required some clever engineering.
“At a time when brands are facing tighter budgets, our ability to repurpose existing tooling offers agility and cost savings. Plus, the new packaging uses less energy, further aligning with our sustainability goals.”
Greiner’s continued focus on innovation and sustainability is helping brands like Olma and Nomadic create environmentally responsible and highly functional packaging solutions, supporting modern consumers’ evolving needs.
