GERMANY – GEA, a leading provider of food and dairy processing solutions, has launched its patented CONTA dual block valve technology for spray dryers.

According to the supplier, the improved system seeks to minimize microbiological risks, ensuring safer and more efficient processing operations.

In addition, it is designed to significantly reduce the areas where feed can accumulate by up to 96%, enhancing cleaning processes and improving sanitary operations.

“The CONTA dual block valve system is approximately half the weight of traditional systems, facilitating easier and safer handling,” the supplier noted.

“It eliminates the need for external welded manifolds, allowing for manual inspection and maintenance with simple tools. This streamlined maintenance process supports continuous operation and reduces plant downtime.”

Emphasizing on the effectiveness, GEA highlighted that the valve unit can be easily configured for both new and existing spray drying systems, ensuring minimal disruption and quick installation.

GEA reported that retrofitting existing spray dryers is straightforward, typically requiring only minor programming changes.

This allows facilities to resume operations promptly. The CONTA dual block valve unit receives feed from the supply system and distributes it to multiple atomizer nozzles that spray the feed into the drying chamber.

Meanwhile, in addition to the new valve technology, GEA Systems North America LLC was recently selected to supply a GEA RedGenium heat pump to a Canadian dairy processor.

This model featured a heating capacity of 7,000 MBH (2,050 kW) and was designed for maximum efficiency and reliability.

The GEA RedGenium powered by a 10-cylinder GEA Grasso V XHP reciprocating compressor, is controlled by the advanced GEA Omni control panel.

In other developments, GEA Farm Technologies expanded its services in May 2024 by acquiring South West Dairy Services, a prominent dealer based in Cullompton, Devon.

This acquisition complemented GEA’s previous purchase of Venture Dairy Services and is part of the company’s growth strategy in the UK dairy market.

South West Dairy Services stocks a comprehensive range of dairy equipment parts and hygiene chemicals, with a dedicated team of installers and service engineers operating across Devon, Somerset, and Dorset.

Simon Harper, GEA’s director of sales for the UK, remained optimistic about the acquisition, highlighting South West Dairy Services’ experienced team and strong reputation.

The team sought to maintain its branding, ensuring a seamless transition for customers. “It’s a fantastic well-respected dealership, with about 12 employees, and we look forward to working with them to continue growing the business.”
