GHANA – FanMilk Ghana, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), has launched the 2024 edition of the FanMilk School Caravan in Kumasi.
According to the company, this year’s edition is aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and waste management, reaching over 100,000 students in the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions.
“The initiative seeks to educate young learners on the importance of proper waste disposal and environmental consciousness, aligning with our mission to create a sustainable future for both people and the planet,” the company noted.
In a LinkedIn post, the company highlighted that the 2024 edition will involve the Wrapper Collection Challenge, a competition designed to engage students in collecting and recycling three million ice cream wrappers.
To motivate participants, the company will, therefore introduce chances for students to win exciting prizes, including FanMilk souvenirs and tablets.
Additionally, the top three schools will receive cash prizes to fund their own environmental projects, reinforcing the message of sustainability and local responsibility.
The FanMilk School Caravan is part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, which initially began in 2018 with a focus on educating students in Accra, Tema, and Kumasi.
Over the years, the initiative has reached more than 500,000 students across 180,000 schools.
In the 2021 edition of the School Caravan, the scope was revised to include education on COVID-19 precautions such as handwashing, mask-wearing, and regular sanitizing.
The program also emphasized healthy snacking to boost immunity, particularly in the midst of the pandemic.
Similarly, in that year’s edition, the company introduced the Wrapper Collection Promo, a recycling initiative encouraging students to dispose of FanMilk product wrappers and other plastic packaging in designated bins.
These wrappers were then collected and sent to the Pick-It sorting center in Tema Newtown for recycling, helping to promote eco-friendly practices and reduce plastic waste.
FanMilk Managing Director Ziobeieton Yeo explained the project’s importance, highlighting that the initiative leans at the heart of the company’s operations, which is to improve the nation’s health by making nutritious products available to as many as possible.
“With this project, we wish to say ‘thank you’ to teachers who have been responsible for the safety of children when they are in school,” he said.
