ADM opens new office, innovation laboratories in Nairobi as it marks 10 years in Kenya

KENYA – ADM, a global multinational food processing company, has officially opened a new office alongside advanced laboratories designed to drive innovation in beverage and food applications as well as animal nutrition in Nairobi, Kenya

ADM’s expansion bolsters its presence in East Africa, with a focus on innovation in beverage and food applications, as well as animal nutrition.

The newly established laboratories are designed to enhance research and development, focusing on tailored solutions for local markets, including beverages, alternative proteins, and animal feed.

ADM’s CEO, Juan Luciano, emphasized the significance of this expansion, noting that the company is well-positioned to capitalize on global market opportunities.

Kenya, a growing hub for food technology and agriculture, provides fertile ground for ADM’s continued innovation in areas like plant-based foods and sustainable nutrition.

This expansion aligns with ADM’s strong financial performance. In 2023, the company reported robust earnings, with full-year earnings per share (EPS) of US$6.43 and adjusted EPS of US$6.98.

ADM also launched a US$2 billion share repurchase plan, demonstrating its commitment to enhancing shareholder value.

The company’s adjusted operating profit for the year reached US$6.24 billion, with an average return on invested capital of 12.2% over the past four quarters.

In the fourth quarter of 2023, ADM posted an EPS of US$1.06, despite incurring US$171 million in restructuring charges.

Earlier in 2024, ADM acquired Comhan, a South African flavor distributor, complementing its global investments in alternative flavor production, including facilities in China, Germany, and the U.S.

This follows ADM being awarded the 2024 Sustainability Leadership Award by the Business Intelligence Group (BIG), as part of their Sustainability Awards program, which recognizes organizations and individuals committed to environmental responsibility and sustainable practices.

Alison Taylor, ADM’s Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer, expressed gratitude for the honor, stating, “We are honored to be among such distinguished sustainability leaders.”

She emphasized that sustainability is central to ADM’s purpose and growth strategy, and this award underscores that commitment.

“Sustainable practices and environmental responsibility are integral to our daily efforts to serve customers across the many value chains in which we operate. We are proud to leverage our expertise to improve quality of life and support a healthier planet.”
