Hiland Dairy to expand in Texas

USA – Hiland Dairy Foods is expanding its Texas production facility in Tyler, with plans to add 90,000 square feet of space.

The expansion, set to be completed in the first quarter of 2025, represents an investment of over US$100 million.

This will increase the processing capacity of the site, which produces a range of dairy products including fresh milk, buttermilk, and whipped cream for both retail and foodservice markets.

The Tyler plant, which Hiland Dairy acquired from Brookshire Grocery in 2017, will see its production capacity triple as a result of the investment.

Along with the expanded space, the project will include enhancements to filling, casing, and storage capabilities, as well as the addition of a new laboratory.

This expansion is expected to provide numerous employment opportunities, increasing the workforce at the site from 74 to 154 employees.

Barry Beaman, general manager of the Tyler plant, emphasized the positive impact the expansion will have on the local community by creating more stable jobs.

Company president Rick Beaman echoed these sentiments, stating that the project reflects Hiland Dairy’s commitment to Tyler’s future and the company’s dedication to supporting the local economy.

Hiland Dairy Foods, a farmer-owned cooperative headquartered in Springfield, Missouri, operates 17 processing and production facilities across the U.S., along with 63 distribution centers.

Its product line includes a variety of dairy goods such as fresh milk, cheese, butter, yogurt, ice cream, and lactose-free options. The company also offers non-dairy products like Red Diamond Tea, lemonade, orange juice, and distilled water.

This expansion follows a series of acquisitions by Hiland Dairy, including its most recent purchase of Borden Dairy in Texas in 2022.

Other key acquisitions over the years have included Roberts Dairy, Memory Lane Dairy, and Turner Dairy, among others, allowing Hiland Dairy to continually expand its footprint in the U.S. market.
