UGANDA – Uganda’s Brookside Limited, a subsidiary of Kenya’s Brookside Dairy, has received a boost in its product marketing after the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) granted it a certificate of laboratory recognition.
This endorsement, issued on July 30, highlighted Brookside’s adherence to international standards in milk quality testing.
The recognition acknowledged Brookside’s laboratory for its technical competence and the effective management of quality tests for milk and milk products.
According to the UNBS, the certification confirms that Brookside’s chemistry and microbiology analyses align with global standards.
Benson Mwangi, General Manager of Brookside Limited, expressed noted about the certification, emphasizing its role in reaffirming the company’s commitment to high-quality products.
“We are thrilled to announce that we have achieved ISO 17025 standard on laboratory management,” Mwangi said.
“This certification not only highlights Brookside’s dedication to quality but also solidifies its position as a leader in the regional dairy industry.”
In addition to the quality recognition, Brookside has been acknowledged for its tax compliance in Uganda, with Uganda Revenue Authority Commissioner General John Musinguzi noting the company’s contributions to the country’s economic development.
Brookside Uganda is also actively seeking to expand its exports to Kenya. However, this move has led to disputes with the Kenya Dairy Board (KDB).
While KDB has permitted imports from other Ugandan dairy processors, such as Lato and Dairy Top, Brookside’s Fresh Dairy brand has faced market access restrictions.
KDB Managing Director Margaret Kibogy has reaffirmed Kenya’s openness to trade and investment in the dairy sector, stressing support for all processors working towards enhancing the industry’s vibrancy and attractiveness.
Kibogy highlighted that the Kenyan dairy sector remains stable, with farmgate milk prices averaging Sh47.6 per liter.
The KDB is focused on supporting growth through improved production, processing, and export opportunities.
“Brookside is a leading processor in our dairy sector, and we continue to support them and other industry players to foster a robust dairy market,” Kibogy said.
