NIGERIA – In Nigeria, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has successfully secured substantial foreign investments from prominent Turkish investors to enhance dairy production across the country.

Governor Lawal embarked on a high-profile visit to Turkey in early July, spanning from June 30 to July 6. During this six-day trip, he met with leading investors and conducted a comprehensive tour of various facilities in several Turkish cities.

The Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, revealed in a statement on Thursday that the tour included visits to greenhouse operations, dairy farming projects, poultry farms, and the Turk Traktor manufacturing plant.

A notable highlight of Lawal’s visit was his tour of the Innova Dairy Farm in Gaziantep. Innova Dairy Farm, known for its cutting-edge agricultural practices, offers expert advice and innovative solutions for establishing and managing modern farms.

The farm’s technologies, which include advanced rumination and activity monitoring systems, herd management tools, and state-of-the-art milking and manure management equipment, are set to be implemented in Zamfara State.

This initiative is expected to transform dairy farming in the region, integrating advanced technological solutions to optimize efficiency and productivity.

In parallel to these developments, Nigeria’s federal government is also focusing on leveraging technological advancements to boost the nation’s livestock and dairy sectors.

Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, recently highlighted the federal government’s commitment to this goal. He announced the formation of a new Presidential Committee on the Implementation of Livestock Reforms.

This committee will collaborate with the tech innovation sector to explore and deploy technological solutions aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and food security.

Chief Diolu Ogunbanjo, Chairman of the National Association of Telecoms Subscribers (NATCOMS), praised the initiative and emphasized the technology’s transformative potential in food production.

He pointed out that technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) could revolutionize livestock management.

These technologies enable predictive analytics for disease outbreaks, optimize feed efficiency, and enhance breeding practices. Additionally, tools like drones and IoT devices offer real-time monitoring of livestock health and grazing patterns.

According to a recent study on smart technologies in animal production, opportunities to sustainably meet food demands by employing advanced tools.

This has led tech experts to advocate for smart agriculture, which can enhance efficiency, sustainability, and animal welfare.

However, challenges such as high costs, data management issues, and connectivity limitations remain.

Addressing these challenges will require strategic approaches, including remote sensing, technology integration, and farmer education, to maximize the benefits of smart livestock production and ensure long-term sustainability.
