USA – Biomass fermentation start-up Superbrewed Food has joined forces with a global ingredient and technology solutions provider, Döhler in a manufacturing partnership.
The collaboration aims to scale up the production of Superbrewed’s innovative postbiotic protein, with Döhler dedicating substantial fermentation capacity to support Superbrewed’s launch of products in various food categories across the United States.
Under the partnership, Döhler will contribute its bio-manufacturing infrastructure to bolster Superbrewed’s patented postbiotic protein ingredient.
This strategic alliance is expected to facilitate the introduction of Superbrewed’s products in 2024, spanning sports and lifestyle beverages, baked goods, confectionery, meat alternatives, and healthy snacks. The collaborative efforts will involve multiple consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies.
Superbrewed’s animal-free postbiotic protein is a non-GMO ingredient with zero allergens, offering versatility to replace or complement animal and plant proteins in both existing and new food formulations.
The protein boasts over 85% protein content, featuring essential and branched-chain amino acids, as well as significant concentrations of minerals and vitamins, including iron, zinc, phosphorous, and B12.
Positioned as a whole food ingredient rather than an isolated protein source, it offers a neutral taste, minimal color, excellent pH and temperature stability, and good functional properties such as emulsification.
Already being developed into various cheese products as part of a strategic collaboration with dairy giant Bel Group, Superbrewed’s postbiotic protein aligns with consumers’ growing demand for nutritious, sustainable, and cost-effective food options.
The partnership with Döhler is expected to accelerate Superbrewed’s time to market and expand its commercial offerings across North America and beyond throughout 2024.
Kilian Daffner, Global Product Manager at Döhler, emphasized the impressive functionality, nutrition, and digestibility of Superbrewed’s protein source.
He expressed enthusiasm about working together to introduce more nutritious and sustainable products that meet long-term consumer demand.
Bryan Tracy, CEO, and Co-founder of Superbrewed highlighted the alignment of Superbrewed’s commitment to sustainability and efficiency with Döhler’s industry leadership.
The collaboration is expected to merge natural fermentation processes with Döhler’s manufacturing capabilities to create novel combinations of functionality and nutrition in protein ingredients at competitive costs.
