USA – Rizo-López Foods, califonia based dairy products and specialty cheeses producer, has initiated a voluntary recall of its dairy products due to the potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
The recall is prompted by information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), suggesting RLF as a potential source of illness in an ongoing nationwide Listeria monocytogenes outbreak.
The bacterium can cause severe and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
Healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms like high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Listeria infection can also lead to miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.
The affected dairy products were distributed nationwide by RLF and through various distributors. They were also sold at retail deli counters in stores such as El Super, Cardenas Market, Northgate Gonzalez, Superior Groceries, El Rancho, Vallarta, Food City, La Michoacana, and Numero Uno Markets.
The recalled products include cheese, yogurt, and sour cream sold under various brand names, including Tio Francisco, Don Francisco, Rizo Bros, Rio Grande, Food City, El Huache, La Ordena, San Carlos, Campesino, Santa Maria, Dos Ranchitos, Casa Cardenas, and 365 Whole Foods Market.
Consumers are urged to check their refrigerators and freezers for the listed products and dispose of them.
If consumers have any questions, they can contact Rizo-López Foods, Inc. at 1-833-296-2233, a hotline that will be monitored 24 hours a day.
The recall is being conducted with the cooperation and knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Consumers are advised to take immediate action to prevent potential health risks associated with the consumption of the recalled dairy products.
