IRELAND – Tirlán, an Irish dairy cooperative, has appointed Seán Molloy, currently Chief Ingredients and Agribusiness Officer, as the CEO designate. Molloy is set to take over from the retiring CEO, Jim Bergin, in July.
Tirlán, formerly part of Glanbia, became an independent entity in 2022 when Glanbia sold its remaining 40% stake in Glanbia Ireland to Glanbia Cooperative Society in a €307 million (US$334.3 million) deal.
Tirlán owns well-known brands such as Avonmore milk and Kilmeaden cheese and has been focusing on its role as a key player in the Irish supply chain.
Seán Molloy, who joined Glanbia in 2006, has held various senior management positions within Glanbia Ireland, including Director of Strategy and Supplier Relations.
In his current role, he oversees revenues of over €2.5 billion (US$2.71 billion), managing exports to 100 countries.
The upcoming transition is part of Tirlán’s ongoing strategic development as an independent cooperative.
Molloy, taking over as CEO on August 1st, expressed his commitment to navigating future opportunities and challenges while focusing on the needs of farm families and customers.
Jim Bergin, who has had a 40-year career with the group and its predecessor companies, played a pivotal role in leading Tirlán through its spinout from Glanbia and its subsequent transformation into an independent, 100% farmer-owned cooperative.
The board has expressed deep gratitude for Bergin’s contributions to the organization and its successful buyout of Glanbia Ireland.
John Murphy, Chairman of Tirlán, highlighted Molloy’s outstanding track record within the organization, stating that he played a central role in transforming the business and building strategic relationships with international customers.
Molloy’s deep knowledge of the agricultural sector and his passion for the well-being of Tirlán farm families position him as a fitting leader for the cooperative.
