UK Greek-style yogurt maker Tims Dairy invests in new capacity to boost production

UK – Tims Dairy, a popular brand of Greek-style yogurt, has expanded its UK dairy factory to increase production capacity by over 60%.

Tims Dairy a family yoghurt producer, was founded by Timotheou’s father and uncle in 1949 in London and currently employs 80 people.

Timotheou and his three brothers, the family’s second generation, are the current managers of the company.

Speaking at the IFE trade event in London on 20^th March, the second-generation family member Bides Timotheou stated that they are running trials in the processing plant. “It’s a matter of getting everything up and running now,” Bides said.

Production at the company’s site in Chalfont St. Peter, Buckinghamshire, south-east England, has increased from 180 to 280 tonnes per week.

The work on the project officially kicked off four years ago, when the existing building was enlarged, but completion was delayed because of Covid-19.

 “We said that we were not going to let it stop our [expansion] plans – it just slowed us down. Now we are back to pre-Covid levels in the food service sector,” Bides said.

The company manufactures and sells its own-brand items under the Ocado, Waitrose, and Asda labels at grocery stores in the United Kingdom.

According to Timotheou, the company aims to prioritize quality, which necessitates cautious expansion.

 “We do believe in quality, not just of the products but also things like packaging and distribution,“ Timotheou stated.

In efforts to streamline operations and free up space for production, the dairy is considering outsourcing order picking and distribution for the first time.

According to Timotheou, the company will take the core of what it does and continue doing it well aiming for things like expansion into national supermarket chains.

“The project to expand the dairy has been a challenge for us, but we have always had this vision for our family business and we are delighted with the result,”
