SOUTH AFRICA – Nestlé, multinational food and drink processing conglomerate, has introduced NESTLÉ EVERYDAY in South Africa, an affordable fortified medium fat dairy powder drink aimed at helping the whole family build immunity to help fight against micronutrient deficiencies.

NESTLÉ EVERYDAY is enhanced with locally sourced ingredients containing Calcium, Iron, Vitamins, and Zinc, to help build and strengthen immunity for the whole family.

Locally manufactured, its production was inspired by the economic impact caused by the COVID-19 pandemic on many families in emerging economies, which hamstrung access to nutritious food to build immunity.

“The COVID–19 outbreak emphasised the importance of strong immunity to help our bodies fight against infectious diseases.

“Therefore, we locally manufactured NESTLÉ EVERYDAY in South Africa, and we were intent on delivering an affordable product that suits all budgets, and is easily available from both supermarket chains and spaza shops.

“We are proud that the final result also delivers exceptionally on taste, ensuring a delicious experience for the whole family,” said Takudzwa Mupfurutsa, Business Executive Officer: Dairy at Nestlé ESAR.

Micronutrients account for approximately 7% of the global disease burden, and they play a key role in the growth and development of the whole family.

A lack of micronutrients, also known as hidden hunger, can lead to poor growth, sub-optimal brain development, and increased risk in contracting infectious diseases for the whole family.

In South Africa, studies have shown that adults are prone to zinc deficiency and that one in five children are stunted, therefore, addressing hidden hunger is a crucial step in the health and wellness of the whole family.

“The introduction of NESTLÉ EVERYDAY into our stable of brands for the South African family is a deliberate pivot from the business in East and Southern Africa.

“We are driven to contribute to solving hidden hunger by bringing products that are affordable and accessible while boosting immunity and health for the whole family.

The nutritious powder drink is available in 250g packs, and when prepared, each pack yields 1.75 litres of dairy drink. The product can be purchased at most informal and formal traders and retailers.

As the food company expands its dairy powder drink line, has made a unilateral commitment to not promote infant formula for babies up to six months of age in all countries around the world, effective January 1, 2023.

The unprecedented decision by the world’s largest food manufacturer is particularly relevant in the United States, Canada, and Japan where no regulations currently exist.

Nestlé revealed this in its recently published annual compliance report on its Policy on the responsible marketing of breastmilk substitutes (BMS).

The report is based on compliance monitoring activities and audits undertaken in 2021 and provides insight on Nestlé’s robust WHO Code compliance system.
